Thursday Thrift Store Roundup

yup, new feature. Or should I say first feature.

I pass this suzani-esque pillow every morning on the way to work. I believe it is the Arthritis Foundation Thrift Store, on 3rd and 83rd.

I love it. Price? $450!! Only in NYC...

Next, I stopped at Thriffany during lunch yesterday which is on 1st and 75th. There prices are usually pretty steep so today I went in for pure browsing. First, loved this brass and glass coffee table:

$225. Yikes. It's pretty reminiscent of these, which sadly did not work out in the new apartment. I tried them together as a coffee table, as end tables, as nightstands. No go. Major bummer

Cute trestle table:

No price. Would be cute as a dining table for a small space, desk, or entry console.

Great great couch. Looked and felt brand new:

$800 marked 30% off... $560! crazy. Luckily it had a big ol' SOLD sign on it or Jason would've come home to an extra couch in the living room. Also love the surfboard style coffee table in front of it. I think that was 200 something.

Then, after work I made my daily stop by Housing Works on 77th and 3rd. Housing Works is like NYC's fancier Goodwill. They even had a Groupon.

I've been eyeing this desk the passed few days:

It's rare to see something there more than 1 or 2 days. But it's marked $150, which is steep for this store, thankfully. But then today the whole store was 25% off. So I rushed home and measured the desk nook and confirmed it was definitely too deep for the space. Just as well, $150 would make it the most expensive piece of furniture in the whole apartment so far...

Also saw this set of 4 upholstered, clean chairs:

Ok, not the best fabric, but really they looked nicer in person. And for $75 for the set, they are a pretty basic shape to reupholster.  Sent a pic to a friend in need of chairs and she said nay. Oh well.

Oui

Jason and I have talked about going to Paris for awhile now, so seeing france related things makes us happy. We recently brought home this map from the flea market:

Its cute but the color of the mat was so blah. Instead of buying ($$) a new one, I just painted the old one. I went to Home Depot to pick up one of the little Glidden samples for the project, only to find that every single blue was empty. BUT, I took a glance at the "oops paint", and sure enough there was a great color in the painter/primer semi gloss! A whole gallon cost only $7. I can use it for 194834 projects.

I removed the glass and the frame, but let the print against the mat. It was all taped perfectly and centered and stuff.... I really didn't feel like re-measuring everything. So I just slid index cards between the two and painted away:

And voila!

I know, the placement is super awkward. But its covering the circuit breaker. I couldn't look at it anymore. I can much more easily look at France in a weird spot. If only I could cover up the heater also...

oh, ok

apparently living with a boy means you will find laundry on top of the refrigerator

chippendale chairs

I first mentioned these here, and they are finally finished!

(I know somewhere I have a better before pic - they were hunter green with pink vinyl cushions)

during...

After...

I found these babies across the street from my parents house on the curb.  Mom still makes fun of how she saw me out the window trying to sneakily run them back home.

Chairs..... free
2 yards fabric (I overestimated btw)....... prob around $8, I don't remember exactly
quart of paint (Behr Dolphin Fin)... $11 (and that will be used over and over again)

yay 2 dining chairs for roughly $20 in supplies

curtains

this wild fabric from the 70s (handprinted on velvet),

Is now two curtain panels:

Of course, they still need to be hemmed. They are pretty fab - you can't tell from the iphone pic so well, but they have the grey/blue and the rusty orange color scheme I was going for (inspiration pic).  This is going to be the desk nook a la

The Nest!!

woohoo we've moved in!! And by moved in, I mean we have a bed, a dresser (one, for both of us), and two mismatched stools so we can eat at the counter.

The apartment is fantastic. Upper East Side, duplex, patio, skylight.  We have not one, not two, but three closets in the bedroom. It is a lot of space to fill, and walls to paint, but I just know its going to be great.

For some reason, before we moved in, they painted the white walls this nasty cream, buttery color that I DESPISE.  Needless to say, painting began the first night. I went with a grey-neutral instead of a beige-neutral.

And now the place currently looks like this disaster:

I'm so excited I can't wait to start doing funner stuff!!!

flea market + junk shop

The Elephant's Trunk did not disappoint this morning. Here's the loot:

Federal mirror that needs some love; $5

A pair of bird needlepoints; $2 (need to be badly cleaned and frames painted)

Forgot to take pics of a thin-necked, pewter pitcher great for flowers ($1) and a sweet candlestick holder (free).  So all in all, $8 for a really fun morning with mom.

Thennnnn we decided to swing by the junk shop because mom has been blabbing about this chest of drawers. Card catalog-eqsue but not really. Used as a tool box. Well, it was still there. Here she is:

Almost the same exact piece (except covered in old green paint) was going for $800 at the flea market. $75 dollars later and she's waiting to get pretty at home :) Excited to turn it into an entryway catch-all console. Mail, keys, office supplies, tools, and 20 other things for the other drawers.

26 days... layout idea

Let's pretend for a second that there is an apartment in NYC this big. I love how the sofa separates two distinct areas.

Dresser as tv stand. Check.

Forever isn't long enough...

Last weekend I went to California to visit the bf one last time before the big move.... little did I know he had something else up his sleeve...

Still trying to catch my breath 10 days later.  I love you <3

42 days... headboard design

We are definitely going to DIY our headboard, question is, which design?  For longevity, we are going to use a neutral upholstery.

Hey you, pick one :)

thrifty and chic
I guess this one is just a basic rectangle with rounded corners? I forget where I found this, but it looks so similiar to my bedroom at my parents house. Love
